Algoma Celebrates Birds and Ways to Protect ThemThe annual Algoma World Migratory Bird Day Celebration, hosted by the Bird City Algoma Committee, will be held on Saturday, April 25, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Algoma High School, 1715 Division Street. This free, family-friendly event celebrates birds and ways we can help protect them. Presentations include photographer and avid birder John Walch at 10:00 a.m. presenting “Birds are Beautiful,” and Kelsey Bell, Bird City Wisconsin Program Director with the Lake Michigan Bird Observatory, at 11:15 a.m., speaking on this year’s theme, “Every Bird Counts – Your Observations Matter.” Additional highlights include live raptors from the Raptor Education Group Inc. (10:00 a.m.–1:00 p.m.), expert advice on native plants and creating a bird-friendly yard, and tips for identifying birds with your phone using the free Merlin Bird ID app. Enjoy informational displays, a bird photo slideshow, and door prizes. Food will be provided by a Lakeshore Singers bake sale and Steel Belly BBQ food truck. This celebration supports Algoma’s recognition as a Bird City Wisconsin Community, a designation that recognizes communities committed to bird conservation, habitat improvement, and public education. PAC’s 23rd Annual Spring Concert will be held on Saturday, April 25 at 7:30pm and Sunday, April 26 at 2:30pm at the Plymouth Arts Center. Director Barb Zirwes-Nysse shares, “Our choir of 50 talented area singers has been hard at work preparing a vibrant and uplifting selection of music that is sure to please every audience member.” Accompanist Tom Armstrong will once again lend his exceptional talents at the piano.
